Nashville Suzuki Violin Students

Welcome to the Nashville Suzuki Violin Academy serving Nashville, Tennessee and the surrounding areas!

Led by Korinne Lowe Hamblin, the academy’s teaching philosophy centers around the Suzuki Method developed by Shinichi Suzuki and encourages children to begin while they are young–even at the age of one! As Dr. Suzuki himself stated, “Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited.” With that philosophy in mind, the earlier the student starts listening to the Suzuki violin repertoire, the sooner they will recognize and be able to play the piece themselves.

The teachers of the Suzuki violin academy recognize the importance of parental involvement in the learning process. In the beginning, parents are expected to attend violin lessons and help their children throughout the week as the “teacher at home.” Students are expected to listen the violin recordings of the Suzuki repertoire and to practice daily with continual repetition of the violin pieces. Parents provide the violin students with encouragement and the students are expected to attend group classes once a month where they interact and play with other Suzuki violin students.

Although the Suzuki training encourages beginning at a young age, it is never too late to begin learning the violin. Collectively, the Suzuki Academy teachers have taught violin students as young as 1 and as old as 88.
